Gestational diabetes

• Occurs in some women during pregnancy
  
  
• After childbirth blood glucose levels usually return to normal
  
  
• There is an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in later life for women who have had gestational diabetes.

Diabetes can also sometimes be caused by:

• Genetic defects of beta-cell function and/or insulin action
• Diseases, disorders or damage to the endocrine system 
• Diseases, disorders or damage to the pancreas
