Novo Nordisk HRT

Novo Nordisk is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). For several decades, we have been at the forefront of HRT developments, and our products are used by women throughout the UK, Europe and the world.

We have a history of leadership and innovation in HRT. In 1977, Novo Nordisk launched the very first cyclical HRT for perimenopausal women, and this was followed in 1984 by the first continuous combined HRT for post-menopausal women. We followed that up in 1988 with the launch of a unique vaginal delivery system for women who wanted local HRT.

Then, in 1998, Novo Nordisk was the first company to launch a low dose, continuous combined HRT, and a low dose cyclical HRT followed in 2000. That meant that we were now able to offer a complete range of low dose HRT.

Estradiol, the oestrogen in our HRT products, is the most widely used oestrogen in continuous combined HRT, and our progestogen, norethisterone acetate, is also the one most commonly found in continuous combined HRT products. The oestrogen and progestogen used in all Novo Nordisk’s products originate from plant sources.
Our research has provided many valuable findings in the field of HRT. Novo Nordisk was the first company to document the beneficial effect of HRT on osteoporosis, the efficacy of 10 days’ progestogen and the lowest effective dose for menopausal symptoms.

We are constantly working to develop the kind of innovative products that can help women at every stage of the menopause.
